Writing

Laura is an award-winning writer who works across multiple genres. You can learn more about her awards and publications here.

She has completed a 70k draft and is currently finalising a non-fiction book proposal for Commonplace; a 90s coming-of-age story meets contemporary grief memoir for readers of Sinéad Gleeson and Jessica Andrews.

Laura is also working on a series of essays about grief, memory, motherhood and the art of drag, as well as a collection of short stories set between Ireland and the North East.

She was selected for James Rebanks’ inaugural rural writing retreat and is spending a week in Ireland studying with Claire Keegan in 2024.

Oral History

Laura is a trained oral historian and has previously attended the Oral History Network of Ireland conference in Limerick. In 2023, she recorded and transcribed oral histories for the Irish in Britain Look Back to Look Forward 50th anniversary project.

In 2024, she will be working with poet Ian Duhig and Leeds Museums and Galleries on a creative writing project exploring the personal and public histories of the Irish in Leeds.

Projecting Grief

Laura is the interviewer and writer for Projecting Grief, a portraiture and storytelling project telling the stories of people who have finding distraction, comfort or hope in a creative pursuit after a loss.

Laura and photographer Jo Ritchie host in-person exhibitions, facilitate creative workshops and online seminars and have worked with Leeds International Festival of Ideas, York Festival of Ideas, NHS Greater Manchester and others.
